Software development is my passion, particularly the processes involved in delivering change. The ability to regularly deliver value in a controlled, automated fashion is central to the way I work.

I love writing code with core strengths in Object Oriented languages (Java) and relational databases (Oracle). I also have an understanding of other programming paradigms such as functional. I'm comfortable with the design and architecture of complex systems.

Quality of software is very important to me. I utilise suitable tools & techniques to implement various flavours of tests. I believe that testing is a core part of the developers role and should be valued highly.

The latest technologies and techniques for delivering software excite me. At the same time I respect existing software systems, the challenges they present and the value they provide to a business.

I view team culture as a key element to successful software delivery. I make it a responsibility of mine to help to nurture a positive team environment where safety, quality and continuous improvement are highly valued.

My passion for software development has led me to become involved in local tech groups such as the Manchester Java Community (MJC) for which I have recently become a co-leader.

I see groups such as the MJC as vital to helping like-minded people in the region to network and develop their careers. It is a great privilege to be involved with the group and I'm looking forward to giving a lot back to the community over the coming years.

Other local groups that I look to attend regularly are XP Manchester and Agile Manchester.

I aim to get to relevant technical conferences where possible either through work or self-funded if necessary. I see this as very important for personal development, helping me to keep to up-to-date with the latest trends and provide ideas that I can apply in my work.
